Invisible Cities and Smart Galoshes

On the morning of Tuesday, July 8, 2025, residents of the quiet city of Sorocaba were surprised by something difficult to precisely describe.

Amid the cloudy sky, between electrically charged clouds and promises of yet another out-of-season tropical storm, a floating structure emerged.

Yes, floating. It was not a drone, it was not a blimp, nor was it an optical phenomenon. Apparently, it was a city. An entire city.

With houses, streetlights, sidewalks, and even a supermarket with a line at checkout 3.

Although it sounds like news taken from some science fiction blog, the structure was photographed, filmed, and analyzed by researchers at Unesp.

Still, no one could explain what it was, where it came from, or why it was simply hovering over the ground a few meters from an abandoned logistics warehouse.

On the other hand, almost simultaneously, farmers in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, reported unusual rain.

According to witnesses, mangoes began to fall from the sky in the middle of the morning, interrupting a cooperative meeting.

Initially, many thought it was agricultural sabotage or some poorly conceived marketing campaign.

However, as the precipitation increased, rational hypotheses began to vanish, one by one.

Between the Absurd and the Possible: The Climate Decides to Innovate

It’s no secret that the climate has surprised the world in recent years.

However, what is happening in Brazil in 2025 exceeds the limits of statistics and enters the gray area of the inexplicable.

While specialists try to understand the events through data, mathematical models, and dubious-colored graphs, the population tries to adapt as best as it can.

In the capital of Piauí, for example, residents are using smart galoshes to navigate the floods.

The innovation came from a startup in Teresina that combines depth sensors with GPS and artificial intelligence.

The idea may seem exaggerated, but it works: the galoshes emit sound alerts whenever the water exceeds the ankle or when the planned path is interrupted by a fleeing capybara.

Additionally, the city of Curitiba implemented weather meditation stations.

In these, citizens can sit for 15 minutes and take deep breaths while trying to accept that the weather forecast for the next day includes sun, rain, hail, and a possible cyclone—all at the same time.

Climate Change or Just a Glitched Version of Reality?

Many believe these events are simply extreme results of climate change.

That makes sense, after all; warnings have been issued for decades.

Still, others argue that we have crossed the boundary of conventional science.

Some say that the planet has developed consciousness and is now sending signals of protest.

Others, less philosophical, think the problem began when someone tried to wash the entire planet with biodegradable soap and inadvertently messed with some climatic variable.

In any case, science is racing against time.

Researchers at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul are testing a theory linking the increase in tropical rains to the growing number of memes about “crazy weather” on the internet.

According to the group, each post shared with the phrase “The weather is indeed crazy” would add 0.002% instability to the atmospheric system of South America.

Although the study is still in the early stages, preliminary results are, at best, disturbing.

Nature Responds with Creativity

It seems that nature has decided to reinvent itself.

Just like artists entering bolder phases in their careers, planet Earth appears to have entered its experimental phase. There are no longer patterns.

There are no predictable climatic routines.

Instead, there is a constant search for novelty — not always pleasant, it’s true — but undeniably original.

In Manaus, for example, a cloud emerged that played bossa nova.

Witnesses say it approached houses with soft guitar chords and vanished into the air when someone tried to film it.

Meanwhile, in southern Bahia, a cold front brought winds that smelled like passion fruit, confusing tourists and increasing the consumption of juices and natural calming remedies.

As much as everything seems like a massive collective delusion, the impacts are concrete.

Agricultural production needed to reinvent itself.

Schools canceled classes due to “emotional atmospheric instability.”

And mayors from various cities began to include meteorologists in the Civil Defense WhatsApp group.
